The Power of Love
If you made the connection from The Power of Love (arguably one of the best 80s pop songs) to Back to the Future (arguably one of the best movies) to time travel to maintaining a younger you with the three pillars of Health, Wellness and Recovery, then you’d be right on. What, just because Valentine’s Day was a few days ago, you thought we’d be all about the shmoopy lovey-dovey?
The last couple of posts we kicked around the post-workout recovery benefits of Chiltonic and the preventative / ongoing benefits of wellness with Patronus Medical. But what about in-between? Enter: La Jolla Sports Club and the age-defying benefits of working out, sweating, pushing a lot of weight around and being part of a community.
Happiness
Who doesn’t want to be happier? Penn State researchers found that ‘people who are more physically active have more pleasant-activated feelings than people who are less active,’ and also found that ‘people have more pleasant-activated feelings on days when they are more physically active than usual.’ Resolutions already getting you down? PSU recommends taking it one day at a time instead of trying to tackle the entire year. There are a lot of smiley faces at LJSC, make a friend or better yet a workout buddy to help keep you on track!
Reduce Stress
Happier people are less stressed. Period.
Sleep Better
Dragging at the office? The Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (apparently a real thing) found that ‘exercise improves sleep quality, mood, and quality of life among older adults with insomnia.’ They did mention, however, that it could take up to four months to feel the benefits, so if you’re having trouble sleeping, get started working out today.
More Energy
Going hand-in-hand with sleeping better is more energy. The University of Georgia found that exercising helps increase energy levels by 20%. Fatigued? Check out La Jolla Sports Club‘s classes or grab one of your La Jolla Sports Club‘s award-winning Personal Trainers for an exercise or two. And not that we recommend taking the easy road every day, but the study also found that low-intensity exercise decreases more fatigue, so if you’re reeeeeally struggling, you now have an excuse to slack. Just don’t get used to it!
The Magic Healing Powers of Pushing Weight Around
Back pain? Shoulder woes? Bum knee? Insert injury here? While it might seem counterproductive to hit the gym, that’s exactly what you should be doing. Yes, following an injury, immediate rest is a good thing, but if you sit around too long, that recovery starts to work against you. We have harped on this issue many, many times on this blog, but healthy muscles lead to healthy tendons lead to healthy joints and bones. Any of your La Jolla Sports Club Personal Trainers will be able to guide you safely through the healing process, so don’t hesitate to reach out. And for the ladies out there, put those 3lb’ers away, you need to be lifting heavier (here’s an easy article from a female trainer).
There are a ton of benefits to working out, so keep those three pillars of Health, Wellness and Recovery in the forefront of your every day for a happier and more vigorous life!
Have a great month, see you soon!
