The headline pretty much says it all. Thanks for reading, see you next week!
Oh, you’re still here, good. As you may have heard us say from time to time, our members, staff and visitors help make La Jolla Sports Club a truly unique community- and family-driven club, so when opportunities come along to give back, we jump at every chance we can. This month, we’ll be showcasing some local charities and events, to help raise awareness and funding for these great causes. We are always on the lookout for more involvement, so if you know of anything, please feel free to reach out!
You’ve probably seen our posters around the club and on facebook, but in case you’ve been under a digital rock, clear your calendars the next two weekends for the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival (October 8-9, opens 10am both days) and our 2-Hour Spin for MS on October 15 from 8-10am.
Multiple Sclerosis–a neurological disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord–has yet to be cured. Each year, however, brings us closer to a cure, so with that in mind, La Jolla Sports Club is teaming up with member, Ric Ladt, and Howard’s Team to help the National MS Society fund groundbreaking research and life-changing programs for people living with MS. And ultimately, end MS forever.
Our 2-Hour Spin for MS event takes place Saturday, October 15th from 8:00am to 10:00am with Michelle and Shawndee. You may reserve your bike by making a tax-deductible contribution of $20 for one hour or $30 donation for the full two hours. You can pay with cash or check (made out to the Multiple Sclerosis Society) at the Front Desk or online here.
UC Cyclery, just down the street at 8715 Villa La Jolla Dr, is generously donating 25 $10 UC Cyclery gift cards. These will be given to the first 25 people to donate $30 or more.
In addition to the MS spin, Ric, as a member of Howard’s Team One Hundred+ riders, will be riding 100 miles in the 2016 MS Bike: Bay to Bay on October 22nd and 23rd. To date, Howard’s Team has raised over $864,000 with the goal to reach $1,000,000 in 2016.
If you would like to support Ric’s MS fundraising efforts and / or spinning is not your exercise of choice, you may donate here.
Last year’s La Jolla Art and Wine festival was not only a blast, but all profits helped benefit underfunded programs such as art, music, science, physical education, technology and on-site medical care at local public elementary and middle schools. With over 150 featured artists from the area, the Art and Wine festival has become one of the most prestigious events of its kind in Southern California. With beautiful art, live music, kids’ activity center, food and tasty beer and wine gardens, there is something for you, and you, and you, and you over there, and it’s all for a good cause. Come out and say hi this weekend, we’ll be there both days (hint: bring tennis shoes and a competitive spirit)!
Do you have any charities you’d like to recommend? Still excited about that amazing art you purchased from last year’s festival? Leave a comment below!
OK, that’s it for now, we’ll see you next week. Have a great time at the Art and Wine festival, look forward to seeing you there!
