The secret to reaching a goal is all in the vision of obtaining that goal. This sounds so simple, but by envisioning yourself at your specific goal, you can see and take the necessary steps to fulfill that goal.
As a triathlete, professional triathlon and cycling coach, I am very comfortable with goals for my athletes and myself. I ask them to sit down and write 5 reasons why they want to achieve their goal and 5 specific ways they need to improve to get to their goal. Daily, they are asked to sit and envision the race, from getting up in the morning, arriving at the race sight, swimming, biking and running the course and arriving at the finish line with a smile on their face!
Not all of us are athletes, or have athletic goals, but the road to the goal is the same. It starts with a dream. If you have a dream, write it down. Next, explore the reasons how to achieve and realize your goal, and write it down. Visualize how you will accomplish your goal and write the steps down. Walk around, take a breath and think on what you have written. Feel free to change, add or delete what you have written. Now, write down 5 reasons why you want to achieve your goal and 5 steps to take to accomplish your goal. Give yourself a beginning and end date. There it is, you now have a GOAL!
