Helptober…?

We kicked around puns for the idea of ‘October’ + ‘charity’ or ‘helping,’ but couldn’t think of anything, so now you just get this: Helptober. Which sounds a bit like you reeeeeeeeeally like Hamburger Helper in the month of October. But what’re you going to do, you know?
Regardless, this month, we’re shedding a little light on a few of our favorite charities and events around the area. By the way, how great was the Art and Wine Festival last weekend? Thank you for everyone who came out to say hi! Just a good reminder that all of the profits from the festival–past, present and future–go to underfunded programs at local elementary and middle schools.
And don’t forget: this Saturday, Oct 15, from 8-10am, we’re hosting a spinning event to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. For more details and to sign up, please visit the Front Desk. If you can’t make it, but would still like to donate, here’s your page!
One of our favorite organizations is Las Patronas, a San Diego-based institution committed to providing financial assistance to non-profit organizations that then provide valuable community services in the areas of health, education, social services, and cultural arts to enhance the quality of life in our community. Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has donated more than $19 million to over a thousand different charitable institutions in San Diego.

Per Las Patronas, ‘All funds raised by Las Patronas stay in San Diego County and are distributed to many small grass-root nonprofits as well as larger, more visible organizations. By giving to Las Patronas, a company or individual diversifies its philanthropic giving – reaching children and seniors, the homeless and the disabled, emergency response teams and the military as well as supporting scientific research, health services, the environment and cultural arts – in a broad geographical range throughout San Diego.’ Whew, well said.
The big, annual event is the Jewel Ball, held at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club the first Saturday of every August. Which means you have plenty of time to get ready for the next one!
What was your favorite part of the Art & Wine Festival? Do you have fond memories of the Jewel Ball you’d like to share? Leave a comment or two below!
Have a great rest of the week / end, and enjoy that Hamburger Helper. See you next post!
