6 Easy Travel Fitness and Health Tips
La Jolla Sports Club has six easy and creative ideas to keep you fit on the fly!
Goeie dag! Hei! Bonjour! Annyeonghaseyo! Sàwàtdee kráp! Merhaba! Hello!
We’re very proud of our cultural crossroads here at La Jolla Sports Club, and with summer just days away, some of our regulars will be off to explore the world, and some new faces will come from far away to enjoy our beautiful backyard.
Did you know that working out abroad is the best way to combat jetlag? True story. Anyway, while you’re packing your passport and credit card (the only absolutes), you might reach for your running shoes and think, Nah, there’s not going to be a gym, I might as well not bother. Our response: Noooooooooooooooo, you’ve worked so hard—we’ve seen you here with your La Jolla Sports Club Personal Trainer—don’t throw away all that progress! Granted, if you’re on a private island with the sole intention of forgetting the outside world with a good book and a mai tai, welllllllllllll… we can’t blame you, but for the rest of us, keeping on a routine, even when traveling, can be easier than you think.
Last week, we discussed how to get ready for your trip by doing some fairly basic functional moves in the gym. All of those moves are travel-friendly, so add in some walking / sightseeing / Angkor-Wat-stair-climbing, and you’ve got yourself a pretty fun heart-pumper. Still need more ideas?
Walking / running / stair-climbing / hiking
The walk / climb up is usually a lot easier on knees than on the way down, so maybe consider a pair of collapsible poles to put into your luggage. You’ll have to check a bag, but your knees will thank you on your descent!
Speaking of collapsible
Packing your own fitness kit has never been easier! Jump ropes, mini-bands and tubing don’t take much space and provide a ton of options for your workout abroad.
Don’t just chill, swim
Sea conditions are going to be different wherever you go, but getting out in the water and kicking around gets your heart pumping more than you might think, and also offers a new perspective on your beach getaway.
Bodyweight workouts
Before you jet off to (insert jealousy-inducing destination here), ask your La Jolla Sports Club Personal Trainer for a bodyweight workout. If you want to get creative, the world wide web has about 1,000,000,000,000 options. Additionally, YouTube is a great resource for bodyweight workouts, and you can narrow your search to arms, abs, legs, buns, whatever you want!
Classes at the local gyms
If you’re missing out on our classes when you’re away, rest assured that you’ll be able to find a HIIT, pilates, or yoga class on the go. ClassPass is now international, so that’s a great option, as well!
Experience the local culture through their sports
In Thailand? Muay Thai. Hawaii? Surf’s up. Any of the Alps? Après ski. Philippines? Some of the best diving in the world. You get the idea, get out and have some fun!
Alright, everyone, have a GREAT start to the summer and safe travels whether it’s around La Jolla or in Mallorca!
