TEAM LA JOLLA
Please join us in learning to swim, bike, and run. You can put them together to do a triathlon or just take what you would like and enjoy the company of other TEAM members!. This year we have added men to the TEAM which will provide a broader pool of individuals.
Team LJSC is a community based team whose mission is to provide a supportive, instructive, and motivational environment for women and men of all abilities to challenge themselves and reach their personal goals through sport.
Our Team is now over one year old and there are many changes. One is that we have included men on the Team! The vitality that is created when men and women workout together is amazing, and we welcome everyone to come and join! This Team is not filled with triathletes, just athletes that want to learn how to swim, bike, run and if so inclined, put them all together to do a triathlon. This year already, the Team has done the Palm Springs Century (100 mile bike – some chose to do shorter versions) and the new UT 10/20, 10 mile run with 20 bands.
Membership in the Team is $65.00 a month, which includes a daily online workout routine using Training Peaks, monthly workouts with the Team, monthly seminars on nutrition, transitions, bike handling, tire changing, swim technique and more. You have access to the Club, even if you are not a member, when we do workouts there and also discounts from our wonderful sponsors.
This year we have added a Half Ironman Training Program for those that want to up their skill sets and practice weekly with a group. Practice begins on April 20th and lasts for 12 weeks. Team practices are on Saturday or Sunday every week. Training Peaks will be delivered to your computer and iPhone with the daily workouts. If you have not signed up for Vineman (the Team is training for this on July 13, 2014) , you can still participate in this amazing chance to get 2 professional coaches working with you on each part of a race – swim, bike, run, transition, nutrition and skills. The cost for the program is $400 plus monthly dues for the 12 weeks, or $750, non-member. Please call Kathleen at 858-775-8534 for all information.
Please note: You must have participated in triathlons, such as sprint and international for at least a year before participating in this Half Ironman Program. If you are interested in coming to a workout, the cost is $20.00 for a drop-in fee. Team members cost not participating in the program pay $10.

MEET THE COACHES
Michelle has been involved in athletics since her childhood. She received her Physical Therapy degree from the University of Missouri. Over 15 years ago, she opened her own fitness studio with an emphasis in core conditioning, body alignment movement using pilates, gravity TRX and general strength principles.
Her Triathlon career began in her 30′s, starting with Sprint and Olympic distances. After improving her swim, she has moved on to 70.3 and Ironman, completing Ironman Coeur d’ Alene at the age of 40. She lives with her husband, Sal, who is also living the Ironman lifestyle!
Kathleen Rafaat is a USA Cycling Certified Level 3 Coach, USAT Triathlon Level 1 Coach, personal trainer, sport nutritionist and a triathlete. She has competed in numerous Sprint, Olympic, 70.3 and her first Ironman at age 60, Ironman Canada.
Kathleen works with her clients to incorporate diet, strength training, core and positive thinking to develop the athlete as a whole. She lives with her husband, Hormoz, who is not living the Ironman lifestyle but both enjoy their two grown children and three grandchildren.
